Day 5: Our first calm day; first day of class!
Today was the first day of class. I got up around 6:45 (because the woman upstairs was running around with her heels), and then got out of bed around 7:20. We met to leave for class at 8 AM, and we got to school around 8:25. We did all the boring class stuff, like talking about a syllabus and talking. :D Our Panamanian culture class seems pretty neat; I'm more interested in Panama and its culture and politics than that of the USA. The Intercultural communications class will be super fun because of in-class discussions (LOTS of them; it IS a comm class after all), but all the writing we have to do balances it out (it is a COMM class after all... :P). Also, we get to do a video (or any kind of media presentation, like power point with text or a slide show with voice over) so that will increase its level of fun! I want to do a skit, hehe.I went to the grocery store and bought a half-papaya that was about 15" long and 6" deep, for $2!!! I bought lots of fruits, and some canned vegetables too. I think I'm done with grocery shopping for a while; I've spent about $60 in the past couple days, and that should at least last me for 2-3 meals for a week (which is WAY CHEAPER than the $30/day they projected for us).
I finished my project today, worked on homework, and had fun getting to know my roommates! :D I also tried calling some people, but not everyone picked up their phones *sad face*. If you want me to call you, send me an email or face book message, and I'll see what I can do. ;-)
I'm starting to get more into eating fruits and vegetables, drinking more water, and eating less at meals in general. Include walking to and from class (thought I didn't walk FROM the store today, I took a taxi, but I didn't want to carry all those groceries in the heat with my sunburn!) and I could lose a significant amount of weight, even in just a month! And if I keep it up, hey...!
Speaking of sunburn, YES, it is official, I got the 2nd sunburn of my life (on my upper back and arms... mildly on my chest). It doesn't hurt as bad as you crybabies say it does. It just itches a bunch and annoys the hell out of me (wearing the backpack while walking to class was bad times, especially since my backpack is kinda heavy). Sleeping wasn't fun, because my shirt was pushing down on my skin (stomach sleeper) and itching the hell out of me, so I slept half the night in just undies. My face is peeling (a bunch this morning, a little more after I got out of the shower tonight), so I'm sure it will be back to its normal color tomorrow. I don't want to get more sun on my back until the sunburn subsides, though. It will look pretty sexy brown sugar once the redness goes away!!! :D
Also, just so you guys know, YES, Panama City is in the same time zone as Louisville. HOWEVER, they don't do Daylight Savings, so technically we are on the same time as Central (which is the time zone I like best anyway)!
