Day 3: Drunk bus misadventures
Today, I woke up to "Apple Bottom jeans, boots with the fur (with the fur!)..." and my roommate Laura was not in the room. She went to 'the island' (I don't remember what its actual name is; something like Tabogo), a little island getaway spot (and one of our many optional outings) with one of our other roommates, Cyndi. It's okay, though; like most alarms, I slept through it after a bit. :) I was woken up again by Sherelle. I don't think I talked about her memory card problems, but pretty much her memory card doesn't work in her camera, but her memory card is fine and her camera is fine too! Anyway, she woke me up so we could swap MCs (we have the same type; hers was 2GB, mine was 1GB) because she wanted to take pictures at the island (who can blame her!) instead of someone else taking pictures for her.While 2/3 of the students were out getting tanned, burned, and almost losing their belongings in a fast-rising tide, I slept in until a little after noon and chitchatted with my other roommate Mary. Then, we went up to a Derby Party on the 10th floor terrace (it is GORGEOUS up there!) and hung out with people who were coming back from the island while up there.
Before I talk about La Chiva (the party bus), I will take a little time to talk about my roommies!
Cyndi, la bella (the beauty), is an adorable red-headed sweetheart. She's the kinda girl that everyone loves because she's so nice, but at the same time she's not so nice you have to hide from her all the time. Also, we found out today that we share a love for video games (she plays W0W, and we both love Diablo II!), and I told her I was going to introduce her to console gaming via Xbox 360 games! :D [YES, I'm going to try to get another PSU addict, you shut up. :P]
Laura, la intelligente (the brains), is a lot like me... she's a big girl who is very smart, very outgoing, very sarcastic, and very funny. The only real difference is she's a white girl with long, brown hair! She is even the only girl out of her family (but she has an older brother and twin younger brothers). She found out that the only TV channel totally in English (not even any subtitles) was Food Network (YAY)! Also, we share a sleeping room and she likes to yell at me while I'm in the bathroom because I'm slow as hell. :)
Mary, la madre perfecta (the perfect mom), is honestly the perfect mom! She's got six kids (most of whom are about the same age or older than the students) and is always very upbeat and smiling, despite some of the problems that she's been going through. She's super smart and very open, and she is kind of like our room mom (not because she forced it on us, but just because she's naturally protective but knows when to let her little birdies fly free, teehee). I helped her add more info to her Facebook profile today, and also helped her check out a dude that was hitting on her at breakfast the other morning! :D
So, I suppose, I am la rara... the weirdo. :)
Anyway, so La Chiva was fun! It's like a 1.5 hour bus ride to the shore (and there is pretty much a dance floor with side benches and a bar inside the bus--but people are encouraged to bring their own drinks, and the bar is a bunch of juices and mixers), then everyone piles out of the bus once we get to the shore, and we dance on the sidewalk for another half hour (and if people need to get drinks of water or go to the bathroom, there are places for that), and then we drive back for another 1.5 hours through the other side of the city! Also, some of the U of L Panama students came with us, and they were TONS OF FUN!
I guess I should say La Chiva was fun minus the crazy drunk, horny couple grinding all over each other and falling all over one another and the bus. :P They aren't really a couple, just two single people. Anyway, they were not only dry humping, they were hitting me in the back of the head (I was sitting down) and falling on top of me, and then when the girl sat down, the boy was still grinding in her lap--or so he thought. He was grinding my arm harder than a stray dog in heat, it was annoying, so I kept trying to move farther up the bench. That backfired on me, though, because someone's mug had a crack in it, and their juice spilled all over my skirt. It didn't stain it though (thank goodness).
Anyway, I should be headed to bed... we have to be in the lobby at 7:30 to go to another beach barbecue all day while hanging out with our U of L Panama student-amigos. :D I will take pictures, and hopefully put them on Facebook.
