Day 2: I was using the buddy system!

I met my friend Nitzia's sister Belen today (and Belen's friend Mili). They were really fun to hang out with. We went to the mall and I got a watch--I need one since my cell phone is off--and we went to this place called Crepes and Waffles (which also serves some BANGIN' HOMEMADE ICE CREAM) and I got (surprise!) homemade ice cream.

Anyway, before I went out, I had dinner with our prof and one of my roommates. Our prof said she was going to make a phone call at the internet cafe across the street from where we ate; my roommate was going to make a phone call at the one across from our hotel, so I said I'd walk back with her, and then just go back to the hotel room. So, I come in, change into my pj's, wash my face, and sit down on the bed... and the phone rings. I answered it, thinking it was one of my roommates who forgot a key. It was Belen! She wanted to know if I wanted to hang out, so I said I would. Well, none of my roommates had returned yet, but I figured I wouldn't be gone too long, so it would be okay... little did I know that in the less than 2 hours I was gone, a mini Amber Alert was out for me. (Not really, but my prof and roommates were worried about me.) But IT WAS OKAY! I was using the buddy system. WITH A NATIVE PANAMANIAN! :D

We saw the U of L Panama campus today. It's pretty neat. It totally looks like you walked into an office here, but everyone has a better tan and speaks Spanish fluently. On the way, there was torrential downpour. AND I bought my first item from a street vendor (it was a small UMBRELLA, and I think it was a good purchase because it was already coming down really hard!) so that was cool.

OH! I also went to the supermarket with Belen and Mili. I was worried that I wouldn't be able to get much with only $30 in cash, but I actually got lots of good breakfast and snack stuff! (I could have gotten it all for less than 30, but I saw $5 wine and I HAD to go for it!)

That's my non-chronological, full-of-parenthesis day. Tomorrow, I will talk about how I skipped a trip to this pretty island/beach BECAUSE THE BUS IS DEPARTING AT 6 AM, and how our trip to/on/during the "party bus" goes. Yes, I said it... "party bus".
