Day 19, part 2: I'm back! (Thanks, Ricardo!)

I am SO GLAD they released me today! I have colitis. Apparently the gastrointestinal doctor was thinking about keeping me in the hospital for another day. I was seriously getting tired of being all cooped up in the hospital room, and I was even more sad that my adorable neighbor and her baby had left.

Also, I got my first taste of hospital food today. It's pretty... special. Okay, maybe it was a special case since I was on the liquid diet, but sheesh, avoid hospital jello if you can. Breakfast was hot tea, apple juice, water, and no-sugar-no-color-no-flavor jello. Lunch was chicken broth, apple juice, water, and more jello. At least this time I did something productive with it... I carved out the country of Panama (and even placed the canal in the right spot)! My teacher said it was beautiful. I think dinner was going to be chicken broth, apple juice, water, and jello but I was leaving as the nurse was bringing the cart by. She did let me take the apple juice though!

Also, all the nurses and doctors were really helpful and very sweet, and tried to be accommodating though I didn't know too much Spanish and some didn't know too much English. The most awesome nurse was a guy named Ricardo, who wheeled me out AND got Mary and I a taxi! Mary told him that his English was pretty awesome, and he said that he was a medic in the military and helped to work on the Panama Canal. He said he was retired from the military (because of all of the canal stuff that went on) but Mary and I could tell that he was working at the hospital because he wanted to utilize his skills, both medical and multilingual, and wanted something fun to do. He was like, "I'm still young, I'm 55!" Seriously, if you ever get sick in Panama, go to Hospital Nacional (National Hospital, in English). Everyone is SO NICE!

Since I spent the better half of the week in the hospital or in the hotel room because of all the pain I was in, I have lots of sweet hospital pics in my facebook album (so go check them out). :)

Tomorrow is back to class (if I feel up to it) and a tour of the Embera Indian reservation (if I feel up to it OR NOT, I seriously want to go). Don't worry, if I don't feel up for class, I'll at least stay home so I can go see one of the indigenous groups of Panama!
